October 22, 2020 – Today began with joining the Youth Service Committee. The committee approved funds for La Colonia and MiraCosta College. We were updated on Sunset High School. There was a discussion about the 4-Way Speech Contest. The Committee Chair asked for volunteers to lead our club’s effort. We heard about how overwhelmed and stressed out the teachers are. Perhaps we should not press forward with the 4-Way Speech this year. Model UN is proceeding to take place in March 2021 via Zoom.
We had 33 on the Zoom call for our regular weekly meeting. During announcements, I encouraged members to donate to Polio Plus https://my.rotary.org/en/donate, and to buy the shoes seen in my background at https://rotary5400.org/page/stomp-out-polio. Today’s guest speaker Kevin McCormack https://www.cirm.ca.gov/about-cirm/contact-us from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine https://www.cirm.ca.gov/ reviewing it’s mission, research studies and funding.
